The term Lord Adhiraj meaning King of Kings is one of the most common references to Maharajah Ranjit Singh. His victory over the Gorkhas is referenced more than any other. The Gorkha Empire was itself undefeated until their encounter with Ranjit Singh. Many historians believe that an alliance between the Sikhs and the Gorkhas could have ended British rule by mid 19th century.
