By the grace of the Holy Timeless Being, the Triumpher over the Gorkhas – may his reign endure eternally! Maharajah Ranjit Singh, the sacred hero, Maharajah, and Lord Adhiraj [King of Kings], let found in the mould during the year 1897 [AD 1840] from the age of King Bikramajit, (Vikramaditya) this pounder known by the name “Manjun” (“the Madman”), in accordance with the most Noble and Holy Command, from his highly exalted presence of splendour, during the year 1897 [AD 1840], under the supervision of Sir Monsieur Chevalier, equal to Aristotle as for ingenuity, a Plato of these times, and heroic General Lord [Claude Augustus] Court along with the fair service of the Kamidan [Officer] Afzal Ali, pupil of the valiant Lord Mamduh

Note:

General Claude Augustus Court was an officer in Napoleon’s army.  After the defeat at the Waterloo in 1815 he left France in 1818 for Baghdad and joined ex-officers of Napoleon‘s army including Jean-Baptiste Ventura. While in Persia, he met Paolo Avitabile, another Neapolitan adventurer, and together they all travelled on to Lahore reaching there in early 1827.   Under Ranjit Singh he took part in the expedition of Peshawar (1834) and the Battle of Jamrud (1837). He was promoted to general in in the Sikh Army in 1836.
