Translation

God is the all-sufficient. On the seventh day of the month of Shawwal of the year 1196 [AD 1782], this flash scattering mortar was ready made. Ready as it is, may it always flash news of Mohammed’s servant’s everlasting fortune, harsh and cold its speech: “on this day’s early hour, you made it clear, it is the victorious year of ours!” [work by Miyan Khan Mohammed, Son of Miyan Gholam Khan Mohammed Chowdury, dated 1196 [AD 15th September 1782]

Note:

This gun likely came into Ranjit Singh’s possession through way of gift or by treaty.   Either way the fact that Ranjit Singh kept the original Inscriptions was a sign of respect and tolerance he had for his all religions.
